Last night the three of us women in the house went samba dancing! It was so much fun. There was a live samba band and some really good dancers. One of the teachers at Celin actually assigned her class to go that night, so we already knew alot of people. I had never danced samba before, but it wasn't too hard. You really just hear the rhythm and make it up. Also, last night was the first time I went to a social event here without Zack to translate for me. I spoke what little Portuguese I could and that seemed to work fine. The three of us had a good time and we decided that we should go out at least 2 times a week :). Next stop will either be the hip hop club Pulse, or the gay club :).
I had my first test today. It was all written, but that was fine. I had done all of it before. I still can't communicate much with people, but seeing myself write paragraphs where I'm from, etc. made me feel good about my progress.
Tonight we are taking a bus trip to Florianopolis, the capital of Santa Catarina, the state below us. We are going to stay for the weekend and hang out on the beach. This is my first beach trip here! This time, I'm using lots and lots of sunscreen.
